The Audi A3 has been around since 1996. Like many other models of the time, the first and even second generation of Audi A3 had the Volkswagen’s Group A platform, while the current generation is based on the VW’ MQB platform. The engine for Audi A3 has also an interesting history. It was the second time a 5 valves-per-cylinder engine was used in any Audi. The Audi A3 engine range was added with a 1.8 Turbo with 178 hp and a 1.9 TDI diesel unit. The diesel engine for Audi A3 was equipped with Pumpe Duse (PD) technology and variable geometry turbocharger. A five door version was also introduced in the same year. The four wheel drive engine for Audi A3 1.8T came in two versions, a 148 hp and a 180 hp. In 2000, the Audi A3 received new headlights and back lights clusters. In 2003, two new Audi A3 engines were introduced, a 197 hp 2.0 Turbo FSI and a massive 247 hp 3.2 L VR6 Audi A3 engine. An option for a new semi auto gearbox for Audi A3 was also introduced. In 2008, 2.0 TDI Audi A3 engine was also made available. The current (third) generation of Audi A3 was introduced in 2012. The Audi A3 engine size for third generation petrol engines is a 120 bhp 1.4 TFSI and a 178 bhp 1.8 TSI. The diesel Audi A3 engine range include a 150 bhp 2.0 TDI engine.
